Introducing Henry

Here is my new bear Henry - isnt he gorgeous? I made him in San Francisco at the Brown Bear Factory - his shirt says "stuffed in san francisco". I chose him, stuffed him, gave him a heart, then the lady sewed him up, after that he got put through an air shute twice to blow the extra bits of fluff off him. DH put him through one end and i caught him at the other...lol...

I named him after my grandfather who was Henry Brown and since my Henry came from the Brown bear factory i thought it was appropriate.

The people making the bears are on site, they also make the clothes. I chose the Tshirt and then got him the grey track pants as i thought he needed some pants.

Next Please....

Today i went out and bought a cash register for the shop. I didnt have one before, and decided that i needed one, its really great, but so much to learn! It has lots of programmable functions, and i have spent the afternoon programming it. I feel like a real grown up shop keeper now i have this!

Looks like i will be opening toward the end of next week. So much to do before then.

Meanwhile, i have included a couple of more pictures from the trip. One is of the Aurora Borealis (or Northern lights) and the other is the snow angel i made. These pictures were taken on new years eve around midnight.

New Shop

I have found a new place for The Craft Attic! Its in Morningside, details coming soon. I expect to sign the lease on Tuesday and will then put up more info about it.

I am hoping to open the week after next, and am very excited about all the new ideas i have for the shop.

Meanwhile, here are some pics from our travels. The pic of us was taking on Xmas Day, enjoying our fabulous Xmas lunch in Quebec, and the other is a picture of the hotel we stayed at in Quebec, the Frontenac, its a old castle.

Home Again

We flew back into Brissy yesterday, so nice to be home. I love travelling but do like coming home.

Didnt get a chance to update the blog once we left Seattle. we spent 4 days in Portland which is not a touristy city so couldnt find an internet cafe at all. Portland is a great place to visit, our room at "The White House" was gorgeous, made me feel like a princess.

After Portland, we flew to San Francisco and had 4 great days there. We managed to do a day trip to Yosemite and saw El Capitan.

Our flight home was great, now back to reality!

Thanks to everyone who put comments up while we were away, it was great to read them all.

cheers

Sleeping in Seattle

SEATTLE, 9th Jan

Here we are in Seattle, and its raining! Not unusual for Seattle but we have had dry skies for a couple of days.

We caught the bus down from Vancouver to Seattle - the main time being spent at the border crossing. We didnt end up seeing much in Vancouver due to illness, shall have to go back someday. Feeling much better today.

Yesterday we went out to the Boeing factory which is about 30 miles from Seattle and did a tour, it was amazing. We also went on a ride in a flight simulator, fantastic fun! We also saw the massive factory floor where they were putting together 6 aircraft, and that was only 1 of the 6 sections of the factory.

Today we did a 3 hour tour of Seattle and surrounds, what a pretty city it is, and really easy to find your way around the downtown area. The mountains are covered in snow, but it doesnt snow much here, it predicted to snow today so the locals are all in a tizz about it as they dont have the infrastructure, such as snow ploughs, to cope with it - as it just doesnt happen that often.

We had a great bus tour, ending up at the Space Needle, and went up 520 feet in the elevator on the OUTSIDE of the building - me {who is scared of heights} coped well, up there you can see great views. Due to the winds blowing the needle was actually moving inside so you couldnt stand still up there.

Tomorrow we are going to walk around the old part of the city where the bus took us today, so we can explore all the little shops around there.

I have just been to Barnes & Noble and got a couple of great scrapping ideas books
;-)
havent found a scrap shop here yet.

For Gabe (my niece) there is no actual Seattle Grace Hospital so i couldnt take a picture of it for you (Greys Anatomy for those wondering) but i have a picture of the skyline the same as the opening credits of the show for you to see.

we also saw roughly where Bill Gates lives, but he is out of town this week, so no tea and scones with him !!

We are here for another day then off to Portland - we are about to book bus or train to get there.
cheers all

In Vancouver

Hi All
I havent written for a while, no internet access in Fort McMurray and been sick since hitting Vancouver, caught the bug from the others on our tour.

Since leaving Quebec we flew to Edmonton, its a bit like brisbane, and if you are looking for a job 9/10 shops have jobs going - they cant get enough people. In Edmonton we visited the West Edmonton mall, the biggest in the northern hemisphere, it has a water park, slides, bungy jumping, seal lion park, mini golf, ice rink, and heaps of other attractions, as well as shops interspersed in between all this, like seaworld/wet & wild meets garden city.

We picked up our tour in Edmonton, the main group had come from Vancouver on another tour and they were all sick - try as we might we couldnt avoid getting it so have been resting up these last few days in Vancouver. From Edmonton we were bused up to Fort McMurray, 4.5hrs north - and thats where we spent 3 days, its a horrible place, and the service was terrible, they told us to expect it as they cant get anyone to work there. The main industry is the oil sands mines, we went out and saw them and that was interesting - they have 4500 people working a shift there, and 3 shifts a day. Because they are paying $1000 a week for a kid to drive the big equipment, no one wants to be a waiter for minimum wage, so service is non existent in the town.

HOwever, we did see and do lots. Each night from 10pm-2am went were bused to the viewing site for the Aurora Borealis - first night saw a glipse for a couple of minutes, next night NOTHING! and then finally on the third night the display came. It was really cool, lots of good scrapping photos to be had. this was also new years eve so we had champagne under the stars with 2 other couples, one from Brissy and one from Scotland. We also saw Saturn thru a telescope, and they also did a mini rocket launch.

During the days we had some other things to do, went dog sledding - and the musher(thats the guy on the back that says MUSH!) was lovely. DH and I were put in the sled and zipped up to our necks and then off we went! what fun that was, especially the slide outs on the corners. The dogs feet dont get cold as they keep their nails and hair on the feet cut really short so the snow doesnt buildup [thats for you Claire, i asked especially]. there were 3 teams of dogsleds, 2 of them were treated like pets, so cute, i took lots of pics, the team we went with is run by a dentist and he has cross bred dogs, that he treats mean [on purpose]- they run up to 2500 klms at times, so have to be tough.

We also went snow shoeing, i fellover and it was nearly impossible to get up, with a foot of soft snow there is no leverage at all. The snow is really dry due to the lack of humidity and so soft. I even made a snow angel on our last night at the aurora!!

We went to a teepee and heard from one of the First Nation people about their history and made a dream catcher, [DHs is much better than mine].

After that we bused back to Edmonton, caught the plane to Vancouver, where we have spent the last couple of days resting up. Feeling better today, we are now off to take the sky train around to see the place. We did do a walk in Stanley Park - it has been devasted by the cyclone they had here a couple of weeks ago, lots of huge trees were down and they arein process of cleaning itup.

ON our first night here we had dinner with our friends, they took a different route to Vancouver, and that was lovely to catch up, they flew back the next day and would be home now [hi!]. We are going to catch up with the scottish couple we met on our tour, they are also in Vancouver currently.

In a couple of days we are off to Seattle by bus - it was also hit by the cyclone that hit here.

Thats all for now,
hope you are all well and had a great New Year.
cheers
Debra
